Optimal acoustic parameters for induced hyperthermia from focused ultrasound: phantom measurements with fluid flow and bubble activity

Holt G, Cleveland R, Roy R

The effect of bubble oscillations and acoustic streaming are investigated in the context of heat deposition in a biological tissue-mimicking medium utilizing high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) from a MHz transducer. Preliminary results indicate that enhanced heating (relative to linear absorption) is achievable for acoustic parameters chosen to maximize bubble effects.
